In the journey towards economic diversification and sustainability, the role of proactive agencies like OMDis Town Transform Agency (“OMDis”) becomes paramount, especially in remote, single industry-led towns like Oranjemund.
Established as a Section 21 Company, OMDis operates as a dedicated Special Purpose Vehicle, solely focused on accelerating the Town Transformation process in Oranjemund. With a clear mission to ensure the town’s sustainability beyond 2030, OMDis collaborates closely with other stakeholders involved in the transformation efforts.
OMDis concentrates its efforts on several key focus areas: supporting existing businesses to enhance their sustainability, fostering the development of new small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and cultivating an entrepreneurial culture, and spearheading the creation of new large industry platforms that can supplement or replace the mining sector. Governed by a Board and led by a General Manager, OMDis boasts a small but dynamic team of business developers.
Their activities range from conducting economic research and developing industry and business cases to facilitating funding and investments, nurturing SMEs, and providing essential business skills and entrepreneurship training. Through these concerted efforts, OMDis plays a pivotal role in driving economic diversification and ensuring a prosperous future for Oranjemund and its residents.
